lyrics
Before you leave,
let's make the sound of
the best constellation in the sky.
It'll be a celebration
for denouncing the hesitation
which has served as a foundation
for most of your life.
Before you leave,
could you give me the new directions, please?
Or provide me with an intersection,
at the very little,
at the very least?
I'm not lost, I'm just at a loss,
can't you see?
Like, remember that night
when I walked alone?
Said I had legs, thumb, and a phone,
and if rape should come,
and if death should come,
well I'd sadly face and embrace
the outcome...
Remember that night
when I walked alone?
From Bloomingdale to the Paper Sun?
I could've died!
We all can die at any time,
My heart could stop this very second,
Yet I still feel hesitant,
To do as I want,
To do as I please!
Sometimes you have to get away,
step right out of your realm of dismay.
Through Savannah and through the plains
and into the midst of the rain,
but before you go,
you must know,
that you will be divided,
you will be divided!
So I'm dreaming of visiting cities to see,
The face of an acquaintance,
if only for a day.
So I'm dreaming of visiting cities to see,
The face of an acquaintance,
if only for a day...or even a night...
Stop this yearning from turning into anything more,
You can't live your life like a visitor
who is always on tour,
Returning to normalcy will take it's toll.
When your life lacks adventure it'll feel
slow moving and dull.
And when you come back,
you'll find yourself
questioning,
What is home?

A fantastic album. I can see why they didn't continue under the name The Evens, as it's a different sound with the bass added. Coriky is the Evens + Joe Lally from Fugazi on bass. If you can imagine The Evens with a slightly more funky, aggressive sound like Fugazi... that's what you get! And there's no way that can ever go wrong. What a great debut album!! smiledozer

I’m so grateful this crossed my path. This album is so beautiful. All the clear technique and mastery and vision are kinda secondary to the fact that this album brought me calm and joy during one of the most difficult times in my life. Yeah, grateful. David McCullough

Washington DC celloist & multi-instrumentalist with a reflective, experimental but accessible collection of ambient songs. Great use of vocals as an instrument to match the synths & cello. Just listen to my favourite track, it gives you a great idea of the sonic treat you're in for. agutterfan
UK singer-songwriter Alex Pester perfects his homespun baroque pop on an vast, largely home-recorded LP that finds elegance in simplicity. Bandcamp New & Notable Nov 3, 2021

I have listened to bluegrass and old-timey style banjo music for many years. Nora Brown has the most poetic interpretation of these styles that I have heard so far. She is the John Fahey of banjo (but also with striking vocals). brit_b
